Formal employment hits record in July, but number of informal workers also continues to rise, says IBGE

Formal employment with a signed work card hit a record in July in Brazil, with the unemployment rate reaching 5.3%, the lowest historical level, according to the IBGE. A total of 899,000 jobs were created in the moving quarter through July, raising the total number of employed people to 103.3 million, also a record in the historical series. However, informal work advanced simultaneously, with an increase in the informality rate. In the passage from one quarter to the next, 1 million new jobs were generated, representing a 1% increase in the employed population.
Portugal is going to buy 75 armored vehicles from Spain for the marines, in an investment of 120 million euros fully funded by the European Union. The first vehicles, manufactured in Spain, should start arriving in the country next year.
