Death toll in Nepal avalanche rises to 359, local media says

The death toll from the avalanche and floods that hit the border between Nepal and Tibet has risen to 359, with more than 1,400 people missing, including tourists from 35 countries. At least 15,866 people are homeless. The bodies were found after being swept away by the Bhotekoshi River. Chinese authorities warn that a dammed lake in Gyirong could receive more than three million cubic meters of water and debris in the coming days, with a risk of bursting and new floods. Eighteen schools in three districts were damaged, with classrooms buried under mud and earth, and teachers and students with no contact in some areas. International aid, including 47 tons of supplies from India, is beginning to arrive.
