US judge cites Dolly Parton in ruling that frees drag queen shows

A federal judge in Texas declared unconstitutional a 2023 state law that banned drag queen performances, citing Dolly Parton in his decision. Judge David Hittner, appointed by Reagan, considered that the measure violated the freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment, stating that those who find such performances offensive should simply not attend. The ban, known as Senate Bill No. 12, prohibited drag artists from dancing suggestively or wearing body prosthetics in the presence of children and in public places.
