The president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, announced that around 30 people with clinical discharge who continue to occupy beds at Dr. Nélio Mendonça and Marmeleiros hospitals will be transferred to private social welfare institutions (IPSS) starting this week. The goal is to relieve pressure on health units and avoid surgery cancellations due to lack of beds. Albuquerque assured that "we will not put anyone out on the street."
