Bope operation in Cidade de Deus ends in shootout with barricades on fire

The Special Operations Battalion (Bope) conducts an operation this Thursday in Cidade de Deus, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, where drug traffickers linked to the Red Command reacted by setting fire to barricades, including garbage dumpsters. Two suspects were arrested and drugs, communication radios, and cell phones were seized. Residents report having heard gunfire in the community and videos show buses making maneuvers to avoid passing through the area. The police action continues and the arrested individuals were taken to the local police station.
The fires that devastated Vouzela and Valpaços were officially classified as a "natural disaster", opening the way for support to affected farmers. The subsidies cover 100% of the first 10,000 euros of eligible expenditure, and agricultural holdings that recorded damages exceeding 30% of productive potential can apply for these government support measures.
