Alqueva Dam regional finalist for the New 7 Wonders of Portugal

The Alqueva Dam, the largest reservoir in Western Europe, was selected as a regional finalist for the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, a competition that distinguishes heritage sites and landmarks of national interest. The candidacy, submitted by EDIA, S.A. (Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company), underscores the importance of the infrastructure as a reference for tourism, environment, and engineering. The dam, located in the district of Évora, is a fundamental landmark for the development of the Alentejo region.
The Municipal Council of Castelo Branco is going to rehabilitate the former building of Pensão Residencial Arraiana, located on Avenida 1.º de Maio, to transform it into a student residence. The project aims to address the need for housing for students in the city, simultaneously contributing to the enhancement of the built heritage and to the revitalization of the urban area where the property is located.
The Instituto da Habitação e da Reabilitação Urbana (IHRU) has opened nine competitions to provide 77 housing units for affordable rent, distributed across 19 municipalities in the country, including Amadora, Aveiro, Beja, Évora, Lisbon, among others, with typologies ranging from T0 to T6. Applications are open until September 17 and must be submitted through the IHRU Arrenda Platform, after previously obtaining the Application Registration Certificate on the Housing Portal.

The Church of the Monastery of Ferreira, in Paços de Ferreira, will undergo a conservation, preservation and enhancement intervention, with a base price of 332,767.47 euros and an execution period of 180 days. The public tender was launched by the Association of Municipalities of Vale do Sousa (VALSOUSA), with financing through European Union funds, and interested companies can submit proposals until September 14. The work requires qualification for the performance of restoration works on historical-artistic immovable property, with the winning proposal chosen based on technical merit (60%) and price (40%).
