Fire in building in Vasco da Gama leaves two dead and ten injured

A major fire hit a residential building on Rua do Bonfim, in Vasco da Gama, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday night, resulting in two deaths and ten injured. Nine victims were taken to Hospital Municipal Souza Aguiar. The Fire Department was called around 9:30 PM and mobilized about 50 military personnel and 20 vehicles from the Benfica, Vila Isabel, Grajaú barracks and six other units. The bodies of the fatal victims were taken to the Medical Legal Institute for identification. Teams remain at the scene carrying out the mop-up work.
The fires that devastated Vouzela and Valpaços were officially classified as a "natural disaster", opening the way for support to affected farmers. The subsidies cover 100% of the first 10,000 euros of eligible expenditure, and agricultural holdings that recorded damages exceeding 30% of productive potential can apply for these government support measures.
