There was no glacier, sponge, climate change: the origins of the tragedy in Nepal

A sudden avalanche on the border with Tibet triggered an unusual landslide and mud wave that destroyed homes, bridges, roads and villages in Nepal, causing one of the largest natural disasters ever in the country. The cause was neither an earthquake nor a glacial lake outburst, but rather water-saturated ground that compacted like a sponge, explained climate activist Prayash Adhikari to Al Jazeera. The tragedy, which occurred on a Thursday, is believed to have killed hundreds of people, although the count is still in a very early stage.

STJ begins to judge request for Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Jatobá's return to prison after neighbors' petition

A petition organized by residents of Santana, in the North Zone of São Paulo, prompted the LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Association to take to the Superior Court of Justice a request for Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Jatobá to return to prison. The couple, convicted of the death of their daughter Isabella, is accused of violating the conditions of open regime. The writ of mandamus began to be judged by the 5th Panel of the STJ and is expected to continue until September 2.

Arrested in Rio de Mouro with hundreds of doses of cocaine and hashish

A 27-year-old man was arrested by the PSP in Rio de Mouro, Sintra, on suspicion of drug trafficking. The arrest, carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of Sintra, resulted from the recovery of a vehicle in a situation of breach of trust. During the operation, police seized approximately 599 doses of cocaine and 3,700 doses of hashish, as well as 148.20 euros in cash and two mobile phones. The suspect was brought before the Judicial Authority for the first judicial interrogation, being subjected to the precautionary measure of bi-weekly presentations.
