The odyssey of Yayoi Kusama (1929-2026) passed through Porto in 2024: recap the life of a cosmonaut

Yayoi Kusama (1929-2026), the Japanese artist considered one of the most important in the world of contemporary art, had in 2024 at the Serralves Museum in Porto her first exhibition in Portugal, which constituted the largest retrospective of her work in Europe. At 95 years old, Kusama continued to work intensely, despite having lived voluntarily in a psychiatric hospital in Tokyo for almost five decades, where she created much of her iconic works of infinity, polka dot fields and mirror rooms that marked the history of world art.
Peter Sloterdijk, one of the most influential contemporary philosophers, is the guest on the new episode of Expresso's philosophy podcast, where he reflects on the relationship between magic, technology, and war. The German philosopher argues that the mechanisms that shape the modern world are a rationalised continuation of ancient magical impulses, and explores the concept of "telemalignity" to analyse how the capacity to act at a distance defines the human experience in the age of drones, missiles, and global technologies.
