Mendon's thesis on deepfakes generates debate at TSE, and ministers assess that it is necessary to define the scope of the prohibition

Minister André Mendonça presented to the TSE a thesis to define deepfake as digitally produced or manipulated content with sufficient realism to generate a false perception of authenticity. The proposal generated broad debate among the ministers, who consider it necessary to be rigorous in interpreting the resolution that prohibits the use of the tool in elections, but are still seeking to precisely define the boundary between permitted synthetic content and prohibited manipulations. The discussion arose after Mendonça ordered the removal of a video made with artificial intelligence involving presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro.
