SAPO Notícias27 August 2026 at 08:02
A team of researchers used a combination of advanced imaging techniques, including computed tomography and electron microscopy, to analyze the microscopic structure of narwhal tusks. The study revealed that the way dental tissues are organized in spiral layers allows extraordinary growth of more than two meters while maintaining the straight shape of the tusk. This discovery not only unravels a long-standing biological mystery, but may also have implications for the development of new synthetic materials with similar properties.
