The article addresses how concessions and privatizations have become a central issue in the election for the government of São Paulo. Almost half of the state highways and nine of the 15 train and subway lines are managed by private companies, in addition to water, gas, electricity, ferry, park, and school services through PPPs. The current governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) advocates for expanding the model, promising the privatization of Sabesp as a transformative project, but changed his position in cases such as Line 17-Ouro of the Metro. Fernando Haddad (PT) proposes greater oversight of contracts and more transparency in the processes. The Quaest poll indicates Tarcísio with 40% of the vote intentions, maintaining an advantage over Haddad.
