China raises to more than 550 the number of missing in Tibet after floods

China has raised to more than 550 the number of missing persons in the Tibet region after violent floods that affected the mountainous area below the Himalayan mountain range. The steep slopes and valleys of the region are particularly vulnerable to flooding and landslides, aggravated by extreme weather phenomena such as intense monsoons and glacial melting. The natural disaster caused significant damage in the region, with authorities continuously updating the number of missing victims.
The fires that devastated Vouzela and Valpaços were officially classified as a "natural disaster", opening the way for support to affected farmers. The subsidies cover 100% of the first 10,000 euros of eligible expenditure, and agricultural holdings that recorded damages exceeding 30% of productive potential can apply for these government support measures.
