American agency confirms that glacier collapse caused seismic activity and floods in Nepal

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed that a glacial collapse triggered the seismic activity and catastrophic floods that affected areas between Nepal and the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet. The agency explained that the seismic activity, initially recorded as an earthquake, was actually a glacial collapse and debris flow that caused catastrophic consequences downstream. The disaster left at least 468 dead, including 393 foreigners, and hundreds missing, many of them tourists, in northern Nepal and neighboring Tibet.
