Lack of resources may halt works to extend the useful life of Angra 1, TCU assesses

The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) warned that the lack of financial resources may halt or slow down the works of the life extension program for the Angra 1 nuclear power plant in Angra dos Reis (RJ), increasing the overall cost of the project. The TCU approved a report with these conclusions and notified Eletronuclear and other involved agencies. Since 2019, the state-owned company has been carrying out the program to extend the plant's operation until 2044. The plant, Brazil's first nuclear facility, has been operating since 1985 and received authorization to operate for another 20 years, conditional upon the complete conclusion of the extension program.
