Elections in Germany: «High probability that AfD could win the regional government leadership»

Polls indicate a high probability that the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) will win the leadership of the regional government in Thuringia, in state elections scheduled for September. Portuguese MEP Lídia Pereira warned of the persistent economic asymmetries between Eastern and Western Germany, highlighting that the east of the country continues to face significant challenges in terms of economic development, income and employment, which has contributed to the growth of voting for populist parties in the region.
