Mozambique alerts population to abandon risk zones
Observador26 August 2026 at 23:01
Mozambique faces a critical situation with 662,000 internally displaced people, and the National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD) is warning populations to leave risk areas before the arrival of seasonal rains. The agency acknowledges, however, that many communities resist leaving their lands and homes, which concerns authorities. The UN has already intervened calling for urgent joint solutions to avoid a greater humanitarian catastrophe, given the country's history with devastating floods.
