Right rejects UN appeal to backtrack on ending self-determination and restrictions on minors changing sex

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sent a message to the Portuguese government and parliament calling for a reversal of the elimination of the right to gender self-determination for minors and the restrictions on changing sex in civil registries, suggesting the withdrawal or reformulation of the legislative bills presented by PSD, Chega and CDS. The right-wing parties, through Chega leader André Ventura and MEP Paulo Núncio, reacted with strong condemnation, classifying the appeal as "interference" in Portugal's internal affairs and arguing that the legislative proposals should proceed without external interference.
André Ventura, during a visit to "alert political power," accused the Government of "failure" in resolving post-Kristin problems, considering that the delay represents "the State's failure" and that the most affected populations "were forgotten."
