UN writes to Aguiar-Branco for initiatives on gender self-determination to be changed

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sent a letter to the president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Aguiar-Branco, asking for the withdrawal of legislative initiatives from PSD, CDS and Chega on gender identity, which aim to prevent, among other measures, minors from being able to change their sex. The UN considered that these proposals represent a setback for human rights, while the parties involved classified the intervention as an unacceptable interference in Portuguese national sovereignty.
André Ventura, during a visit to "alert political power," accused the Government of "failure" in resolving post-Kristin problems, considering that the delay represents "the State's failure" and that the most affected populations "were forgotten."
