At least 160 people died after devastating floods hit the border region between Nepal and China, destroying buildings and triggering a frantic search for survivors in the rubble. Hundreds of people, including foreign tourists, are missing after the tragedy — considered the most devastating in Nepal since the 2015 earthquake. Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the nation is "shocked and distressed" in the face of the catastrophe that violently struck river valleys in the Rasuwa area, where the Bhotekoshi River overflowed causing enormous human and material losses.
