Nepal: Earthquake may have shifted ice blocks that caused massive landslide

A strong earthquake in Nepal is believed to have caused the displacement of ice blocks that led to a large-scale landslide. The provisional death toll indicates around 100 dead and more than 570 people missing, including a Portuguese citizen. The earthquake, which reached high magnitude, caused significant damage in the region, with local authorities and rescue teams working on search and rescue operations.
The fires that devastated Vouzela and Valpaços were officially classified as a "natural disaster", opening the way for support to affected farmers. The subsidies cover 100% of the first 10,000 euros of eligible expenditure, and agricultural holdings that recorded damages exceeding 30% of productive potential can apply for these government support measures.
