Benfica target midfielder from Racing Santander to replace Richard Ríos

Benfica are monitoring 23-year-old Colombian midfielder Gustavo Puerta from Racing Santander as a potential replacement for Richard Ríos, also Colombian. The red SAD have not yet received any official offer for Ríos, but believe a sale opportunity may arise and will only proceed with signing Puerta if the current Palmeiras player leaves the squad. Benfica are willing to invest around 20 million euros in Puerta, but first intend to secure a higher fee from the sale of Ríos, keeping several scenarios on the table for the end of the transfer window.
Benfica drew 0-0 with Aarhus in Denmark in a Europa League match, where the Eagles seek to secure qualification for the league phase of the European competition. The match ended goalless, leaving the fate of progression to the next round undecided.
UEFA is preparing a legal action against FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarding the already abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. The European football body argues that such an initiative would be harmful to the interests of football and the member federations.
