The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of its support for Gianni Infantino's candidacy for the FIFA presidency. The 54-year-old Swiss-Italian executive, the sole candidate for the March 2027 election, faces criticism due to his failed plan to open the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors. The FIGC stated that its position is in total agreement with UEFA and that it will continue working together with the European governing body and other federations to promote a vision of football based on merit, solidarity, sustainability, and the centrality of fans.
