First Jackson Hole of Warsh: debt interest, Treasury support and persistent inflation

Kevin Warsh, president of the Federal Reserve, will deliver his first speech at the Jackson Hole meeting on Friday, in a context marked by elevated long-term interest rates, persistent inflation above target, and Treasury intervention in debt markets. The event occurs at a particularly challenging moment for U.S. monetary policy, with long-term rates at elevated levels and the need to balance inflation control with financial market stability.
Portugal is going to buy 75 armored vehicles from Spain for the marines, in an investment of 120 million euros fully funded by the European Union. The first vehicles, manufactured in Spain, should start arriving in the country next year.
