The health condition of King Harald V of Norway has significantly worsened and is now considered "extremely serious" by the Royal Palace. The 89-year-old monarch has been hospitalized since August 17 at Rikshospitalet in Oslo due to complications related to hemolytic anemia, a disease that causes the accelerated destruction of red blood cells. Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit have canceled all official engagements and remain at the hospital with the king, who is also receiving treatment for a blood infection. Haakon is temporarily serving as regent during his father's absence.
