Prices are growing at twice the rate of wages in Castellón, which is making life significantly more difficult for families in the region. This situation is making the arrival of September particularly difficult, traditionally a period of major spending for households.
With the end of the holidays, citizens face a return to normalcy that implies expenses such as filling up the fuel tank, doing supermarket shopping and facing back-to-school costs. The list of expenses includes backpacks, notebooks, clothes, shoes, English academies and gyms, among other essential items.
This year, these usual expenses are compounded by an extremely high energy bill, which threatens to cause another hole in the household accounts of families in Castellón. The combination of these factors is placing additional pressure on family budgets in the region.
