The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar abandoned the Vuelta a España after suffering a spectacular crash during the eighth stage of the competition. The rider was leading the general classification of the race at the time of the incident.
Pogacar was visibly bleeding after the crash, also suffering a shoulder injury that was described as in bad shape. The severity of the injuries made it impossible for him to continue in the race.
This withdrawal represents a major blow to Pogacar's sporting aspirations, as he was the main favorite for overall victory at the Vuelta. The abandonment occurred at an early stage of the race, when the Slovenian was still in the lead.
