Milo Yiannopoulos, a right-wing radical commentator and political activist, was arrested by US authorities on charges of being an "illegal alien" in the country. This detention ironically contrasts with positions he himself publicly defended, namely ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) checkpoints in supermarkets, particularly targeting immigrant communities.
US authorities stated that Yiannopoulos entered the country legally in May 2019. However, he remained in the United States beyond the authorized period of stay, which constituted the violation that led to his arrest.
The case became particularly notorious due to the inconsistency between the anti-immigration positions Yiannopoulos publicly professed and his own legal status as a foreigner in the country. The commentator was known for advocating restrictive immigration policies and for his provocative activism in the North American radical right.
