Marinakis confirms: Door only wants Benfica

Dia de Jogo — jornal desportivo29 August 2026 at 09:53

The owner of Olympiacos, Marinakis, officially confirmed that the Greek club proceeded with payment of Gustavo Puerta's termination clause. This means that Olympiacos had the financial availability to activate the clause and complete the transfer of the Colombian player.

However, despite Olympiacos having met all financial requirements to acquire Puerta, the player showed no interest in heading to Greek football. The Colombian clearly expressed his intention to only want to play for Benfica, the club to which he was linked.

This situation places Benfica in a delicate position, as Puerta has shown preference for the Portuguese club. The player appears to be willing to wait for a transfer opportunity to the Luz, even if it means postponing his decision to leave his current club.

Marinakis' confirmation comes at a time when speculation about the young Colombian's future intensifies. Olympiacos demonstrated concrete interest by paying the clause, but the player's willingness may block this transfer and open the way for Benfica to submit a proposal.
