Sami Pajari finished the first stage of the Rally of Paraguay in the leading position. The driver managed to gain an advantage over his competitors in a race that has proven extremely challenging.

Thierry Neuville, who is one of the title favorites, also retired from the competition. Takamoto Katsuta completed the list of retirements of important drivers.
