The 24-year-old player presented an atypical joint effusion, which is the unusual accumulation of fluid in a joint, and which could cause an infection. As a result, the operated area showed intense swelling and the doctors decided to hospitalize him again for further medical evaluation.
The Fluminense number 9 underwent surgery to restore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee. He is expected to be discharged by next Tuesday. The player suffered the ligament rupture during a derby against Vasco, for the Copa do Brasil, on August 1st.
John Kennedy was injured in a challenge with right-back Paulo Henrique in the second half of the elimination match against Vasco. After the injury, the striker left the field crying, in a lot of pain, and left the Maracanã limping.
