Five mistakes that harm oily skin in winter

oglobo28 August 2026 at 14:58

With the arrival of winter and the drop in temperatures, it is common to believe that oily skin requires less care, but this perception can lead to inadequate habits. The cold, hot showers and low humidity weaken the skin's natural protective barrier, causing the body to activate mechanisms to restore this defense.

According to the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), maintaining a cleansing, hydration and sun protection routine is essential throughout the year, including in winter. The specific skincare routine for oily skin should not be abandoned during the cold season.

During winter, air humidity drops and cold temperatures lead to decreased body perspiration. These factors make the skin drier, creating a false impression that the oiliness problem has been solved.

Additionally, it is common for people to take hotter showers during this time of year, which causes the removal of natural oil more intensely. This diminishes the lipid layer that retains skin moisture, further compromising its protective barrier.
