Nepal police issue flood alert after lake breach in Tibet

Nepal police issued a flood alert after being informed about the breach of a lake in China's Tibetan territory. The information was confirmed by Nepali police, who alerted all security and rescue teams, as well as the general public, about the situation.

The lake that breached had been formed by the collapse of a glacier. This same glacier was responsible for the floods that occurred on Wednesday, which have already caused nearly 500 deaths.

Nepalese authorities asked the population to remain alert, seek shelter immediately and report any emergency to the relevant authorities.

The situation puts at risk communities living in the lowland areas of Nepal, particularly those situated along rivers that receive water from Tibet.
