A devastating and sudden flood hit the Himalayan region, on the border between Nepal and Tibet, after the collapse of a huge mass of ice and rock that triggered a series of flash floods along more than 100 kilometres. The situation triggered a rush to hospitals, mainly in Kathmandu, where dozens of families gathered looking for news of their relatives.
At the gates of a hospital in the Nepali capital, anguish was visible among those present. One of the affected people is Subina Taman, who explained that she had spoken to her husband at 7:30 am, when he said he was bringing 2 kg of nuts and chocolates for the children. According to her, her husband never made it home.
The roads leading to the affected region are cut off and several towns are isolated due to the catastrophe. The injured are being transported by helicopter to the Nepali capital as rescue operations continue.
