During the São Gonçalo Jury Court session on the morning of August 25, Civil Police delegate Leonardo Affonso Dantas dos Santos was threatened with death by Ronan Azevedo Bento, one of the defendants present at the trial. The threat occurred during the first witness's testimony, when the session had already begun routinely with normal procedures such as calling the jurors and announcements about cell phone use.
Ronan Azevedo Bento and Anderson Cabral Pereira, known as Sássa, are accused of being part of a militia and are charged with the triple-qualified homicide of Douglas Quintino Ribeiro. The trial was continuing in court when the threat was made against the delegate.
After the threat, Judge Juliana Bessa Ferraz Krykhtine ordered that Ronan be removed from the jury session. Delegate Leonardo Affonso Dantas dos Santos filed a police report about the threat received in the court chamber itself.
The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) asked the judge to take effective institutional protection measures to ensure the safety of the threatened delegate during the proceedings.
