The MTG-I2 satellite launched from French Guiana aboard the Ariane 6 rocket, successfully completing the first trio of Third Generation Meteosat satellites. This launch marks an important milestone for the European meteorological constellation, ensuring the continuity of atmospheric observation services.

The MTG-I2 is the second imaging satellite of the new generation, joining the already existing MTG-I1 and MTG-S1 to form a complete constellation. Together, these three spacecraft ensure continuous and detailed coverage of atmospheric conditions over Europe and Africa.

The new constellation will enable the acquisition of meteorological data and images every 2.5 minutes, a significant advancement compared to previous generations. This improved observation frequency is essential for strengthening weather forecasting capacity and early warning of extreme weather phenomena.
