The first appearances by ministers in the Spanish Congress to account for the management in Ceuta did nothing but highlight the isolation of the Government. Both the opposition from PP and Vox as well as parliamentary partners distanced themselves, questioning the late or insufficient response, the clash of versions about the role of the CNI and, above all, the complacency with Morocco.
The parliamentary groups managed to force a postponement of Pedro Sánchez's explanations, which ended up being scheduled for next Thursday. However, the appearances of up to four ministers — Defense, Presidency and Justice, Health and Territorial Policy — that took place throughout this week do not seem to have convinced or clarified the main doubts raised.
The opposition and the Government's allies in the lower chamber especially criticized the way the executive responded to the crisis, as well as the contradictions between the official versions about the involvement of Spanish intelligence services in the situation in Ceuta.
