International Maritime Organization alerts that Strait of Hormuz remains unsafe

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) issued an alert informing that the Strait of Hormuz remains unsafe for navigation. The organization warned shipowners and shipping operators about the risks associated with crossing the region.

The IMO Secretary-General was the one who directly issued the alert to shipowners and operators, including shipping companies. The main message conveyed was that they should conduct risk assessments before any decision, but above all, avoid transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is a maritime route of great strategic and commercial importance, being one of the main passageways for oil transportation worldwide. The insecurity in the region has worried international maritime authorities.
