Santos Dumont Airport closes after small jet skids and goes off runway during landing

Santos Dumont Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, was closed on Thursday afternoon after an Embraer Phenom 100 jet, with registration PS-VEE, skidded and went off the runway during landing, stopping in the grass area. The aircraft, manufactured in 2009 and with capacity for five passengers, was carrying only the pilot and one crew member, and there were no injuries. The airport's Emergency Plan was immediately activated, Fire Department teams provided support at the scene, and Cenipa technicians went to the site to investigate the causes of the incident. Thirteen flights were diverted to Galeão and another sixteen were also redirected to other destinations.
