Electoral Court rejects complaint against Crivella in the 'bribe headquarters' case and keeps path open for candidacy

The Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro rejected, by 4 votes to 3, the complaint against former mayor Marcelo Crivella in the case known as "the bribery headquarters," keeping his path open for a Senate candidacy. The tiebreaking vote was cast by the president of the TRE-RJ, who did not consider there to be sufficient evidence for criminal charges. The Public Prosecutor's Office had accused Crivella of an alleged scheme of fraud in public bids, use of shell companies, and fictitious contracts for misappropriation of funds during his administration in Rio. The TSE had already cleared the politician's candidacy in previous weeks.
