Hundreds of residents of Ceuta blocked a Red Cross truck loaded with food destined for illegal immigrants gathered on a beach for more than two hours on Thursday. In a peaceful protest, the demonstrators demanded solutions from the Spanish Government for the crisis which, according to them, is affecting daily life and generating insecurity in the autonomous city. The demonstration took place without incidents, despite the police presence, and the participants also criticized the Red Cross for assisting the migrants. Later that afternoon, disturbances occurred on another beach, where residents entered the migrant camps and caused damage. The Government appointed this week a single command to coordinate the response to the crisis and revealed the intention to temporarily concentrate the migrants for identification and possible return. Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in northern Morocco, saw around 72,000 people enter in just 24 hours at the end of July, and at least 82 people died trying to reach the city by swimming.
