Mosquito traveled by plane and killed two workers at Frankfurt Airport
SAPO27 August 2026 at 16:30
An extremely rare outbreak of malaria at Frankfurt Airport in Germany caused the death of two workers and infected four other people. None of the victims had recently traveled to regions where the disease is endemic, with the transmitting mosquito most likely having arrived by plane. This case raises concerns about the risks of tropical diseases at airports outside the usual transmission zones.
