Two people died in an attack at a secondary school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, near Berlin, Germany. The alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old young man, was detained by authorities. Carris terminated maintenance contracts with MNTC after the Elevador da Glória accident

Carris terminated all contracts with MNTC, the company responsible for maintaining the Elevador da Glória, after the accident on September 3, 2025 that caused 16 dead and 20 injured. The contract was revoked on November 4, 2025, and the maintenance needs will now be managed by Carris' internal team. A preliminary GPIAAF report had already indicated that MNTC did not have the necessary specialized technical knowledge for the maintenance of funiculars. Only the relatives of one of the 16 victims have proceeded to court, demanding compensation of 1,050,000 euros from insurer Fidelidade, after no agreement was reached. Four families have already established compensation agreements, while seven cases are under negotiation.
