One of the largest military cargo aircraft landed today at Madeira Airport

A Royal Canadian Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster landed this afternoon at Madeira Airport, coming from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto. The stopover in the Region was brief, about 40 minutes, and the reason for the stop was not revealed. After the stopover, the aircraft continued its journey to Marrakech, Morocco.

Carris terminated maintenance contracts with MNTC after the Elevador da Glória accident

Carris terminated all contracts with MNTC, the company responsible for maintaining the Elevador da Glória, after the accident on September 3, 2025 that caused 16 dead and 20 injured. The contract was revoked on November 4, 2025, and the maintenance needs will now be managed by Carris' internal team. A preliminary GPIAAF report had already indicated that MNTC did not have the necessary specialized technical knowledge for the maintenance of funiculars. Only the relatives of one of the 16 victims have proceeded to court, demanding compensation of 1,050,000 euros from insurer Fidelidade, after no agreement was reached. Four families have already established compensation agreements, while seven cases are under negotiation.
