Uefa prepares criminal action against FIFA and Infantino over plan to sell shares to private investors

Uefa decided to open criminal proceedings against FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino, over the now abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other competitions to private investors. The European body requested permission from a US federal court to obtain testimonies and documents from FIFA in Florida to use in a planned criminal complaint in Switzerland against Infantino. Uefa alleges that the president developed the proposal secretly with a small group of consultants and investors, bypassing the entity's normal governance processes.
