18-year-old Madeiran handball player Beatriz Barros has signed for Clube de Andebol de Leça da Palmeira for the 2026/2027 season. A Portuguese international at under-16 and under-18 levels, having recently participated in the World Championship in the category, the pivot continues her career at the northern club after several years at Madeira Andebol SAD and CD Bartolomeu Perestrelo, her formative club, in a move also motivated by the continuation of her academic studies outside of Madeira.
FC Porto and Sporting will learn their opponents in the first phase of the Champions League this Thursday in Monaco, in a draw that will define the eight groups of the competition. The group stage will begin between September 8 and 10 and will continue until the end of January, in a calendar that spans much of the sporting season.
The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, from UAE Emirates, won the sixth stage of the Vuelta a España by beating Spanish rider Enric Mas, from Movistar, in a sprint finish at Castelló de la Plana, thereby reinforcing his lead in the overall standings of the race.
The Dutch striker Luuk de Jong visited Olival, FC Porto's training center, on his birthday. The visit of the player, who has already represented the Porto club, was received by the squad and marked a special occasion for the Dutchman.
In a stage of great demand for Emirates and for João Almeida, Tadej Pogacar launched an attack on the final climb, but was caught by Enric Mas and nearly crashed on the descent. However, the Slovenian recovered and defeated the Spaniard in the sprint, thus securing his third stage victory (hat-trick) in the race.
