Extreme heat damage is eating into the EU's GDP: countries are being demanded much more money to prevent greater disasters

European governments need to invest more than double what they currently spend on climate change adaptation to avoid even more disastrous consequences in the coming years, according to the European Commissioner for Climate, Wopke Hoekstra. The damage caused by extreme heat is already affecting the EU's GDP, and countries have no alternative but to allocate significant amounts to adapt to the ongoing effects of climate change.
