Argentine deputies approve reform that prohibits Central Bank from financing public spending

Argentina's Chamber of Deputies approved a bill by President Javier Milei that prohibits the Central Bank from financing the State directly or indirectly, including loans to the Treasury, provinces and municipalities, as well as the purchase of public debt securities in the primary market. The measure, approved by 144 votes to 109, aims to reduce public spending and control inflation. The bill, presented by Milei at the end of July, establishes that only distributable profits may be transferred to the State, under certain conditions. The proposal will now go to the Senate, where the government does not have a majority.
