Buying REN will not make electricity prices go down
SAPO Notícias27 August 2026 at 11:06
The article addresses the acquisition of REN (Rede Eléctrica Nacional) and clarifies that this operation will not result in a reduction of electricity prices for consumers. It underlines that, for an average Portuguese family, the cost corresponding to electricity transport by REN is only about €3.60 per month, a relatively small amount. The text alerts that what really weighs on electricity bills are the costs arising from political decisions made by successive governments over decades, as well as the fiscal burden on the energy sector.
