World record holder Sabastian Sawe will not compete in the Berlin Marathon in September

Kenyan Sabastian Sawe, the marathon world record holder after completing the race in 1:59:30 in London in April, announced on Thursday that he will not compete in the Berlin Marathon on September 27 due to an injury. The 31-year-old athlete, who improved on Kelvin Kiptum's previous record by more than a minute, communicated the decision to fans on Instagram without specifying the nature of the physical problem. The Berlin Marathon, known for its flat profile that favors record-breaking, would have been Sawe's first race since his victory in London. His record could be threatened on December 6, when Ethiopian Yomif Kechjelek will attempt the feat at the same German event.
